Thousands of moms fight for gun control

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - The Connecticut school shooting has one Zionsville mom turning her hurt into healing.

Shannon Watts, a stay at home mother of five, is using her experience as a public relations executive to fight for her passion.

Saturday, she created a Facebook page called One Million Moms for Gun Control .

Watts says her page isn’t about dialogue but about action.  She told her followers “Let's march in DC for the reinstitution of the assault weapons ban, among other laws that will restrict gun availability in this country.”

“We are not talking about banning hand guns,” Watts told 24-Hour-News 8. “I would like to live in a society where we are all going to school and learning and not worried that we are going to be attacked. I think the more weapons you have the more likely that is to happen. ”

Some of the restrictions she suggests include not being able to take concealed weapons into churches and schools. She also wants to push to limit the amount of ammunition people can purchase.

So far, more than 4,000 have liked the Facebook page in support.

Watts admits there will be challenges but she will do everything possible to prevent another disaster like the one in Connecticut.

“There are only 4 million members in NRA but there are 84 million moms,” Watts said. “If we come together we can make a difference.”
