Students, teachers to get paid for passing AP tests

WHITELAND, Ind. (WISH) - Students at Whiteland Community High School will be able to earn a little extra cash for doing well on Advance Placement tests.

Starting next year, students can get $100 if they score high enough on the AP exam for English, Science or Math.

This is part of a grant by the National Math and Science Initiatives that encourages AP work. Whiteland is one of 12 Indiana high schools involved in the grant.

“It’s about preparation for college and career readiness and its about how you perform during those first years of college and having those kids ready and challenging them and introducing them to the rigor now,” said Principle John Schilawski

Schilawski says students who do well in AP have a higher first year GPA's than those who do not take AP courses.

Teachers are also eligible for bonuses when students do well on AP exams.
