Ritz responds to Pence education order

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The new State Superintendent of Public Instruction spoke with 24-Hour-News 8 after Governor Pence moved some responsibility away from Glenda Ritz's office.

On his first day in office, Mike Pence signed an executive order that orders the board that oversees teacher contract negotiations to report to the Governor.

Two years ago, Mitch Daniels gave that authority to the state superintendent's office. Glenda Ritz says she opposed Daniels making that change.

"I don't want to be in that position, I'm glad he (Pence) did the executive order. It's going to operate as a separate entity, as it should."

Ritz says Pence's executive order will give the board a fair and objective view of school contract disputes.
