SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt (AP) - Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is expressing her doubts that Iran will respond to the Obama administration's diplomatic overtures.

A senior State Department official says Clinton made the statement in a private meeting with the foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates. The official says the foreign minister told Clinton that Persian Gulf nations are concerned that Obama might make a deal with Iran on nuclear or other issues without fully consulting allies in the region.

The official quotes Clinton as saying, "We're under no illusions" and "Our eyes are wide open on Iran." She reportedly said the Obama administration is carefully calculating its moves and pledged to consult fully with Gulf allies.

Clinton is attending an international conference in Egypt designed to raise money to help the Gaza Strip recover after Israel's recent offensive.
