INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A grandmother is dead after being stabbed while trying to break up a swordfight between her brother-in-law and her grandson, according to police.
Police say they were called out to a domestic situation in the 5200 block of North Raceway Road around 1 a.m.
According to IMPD, 69-year-old Adof Stegbauer and 39-year-old Chris Rondeau were involved in a fight that escalated to the use of swords. Police say Adof's sister-in-law Franziska Stegbauer tried to break up the fight and was stabbed.
Franziska Stegbauer, 77, was taken to Wishard Hospital where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy will be conducted to determine if she died from the stabbing or from a heart attack.
Police say Adof Stegbauer and Rondeau both suffered stab wounds. Adof is in surgery with serious injuries at Wishard Hospital.
Rondeau is listed in stable condition at Wishard as well. He has been preliminarily charged with attempted murder.
Police are still investigating this case.
