WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman is running a holiday season mail campaign called "Hoosier Cheer for Our Heroes.”
Skillman’s office is collecting cards and will send them to Indiana troops around the world. Those who want to participate should send cards and letters (but no money or gifts) to Skillman’s Statehouse office by Wednesday, Nov. 18.
Two state senators, Ron Alting (R) of Lafayette and Brandt Hershman (R) of Wheatfield, are encouraging Indiana residents to join in.
“This holiday season when you make your card list, please remember Indiana servicemen and women who will be spending the holidays away from their homes, families and friends,” Hershman said.
“During this season of giving, it’s important for us express our appreciation to those who are putting action behind our hopes for ‘peace on earth,’” Alting said. “I am thankful for our troops and hope many residents will take the time to participate in the lieutenant governor’s thoughtful program.”
The cards and letters should be sent to to the following address by Nov. 18:
Office of the Lieutenant Governor
Statehouse
200 West Washington St.,
Indianapolis, IN 46204-2797
Skillman’s office received about 20,000 cards for troops last year and officials hope to top that this year.
