WHITE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Just after 4:00 a.m. the White County Sheriff's office responded to a report of a serious bodily accident that had occurred somewhere in the vicinity of County Road 900 S and US 231.

Police said deputies located the crash site on County Road 700 W just north of State Road 18. A blue pickup truck driven by 25-year-old Shawn M. Cain of Fowler was found on its side in a drainage ditch off the west side of the roadway.

Cain was found inside the pickup and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Cain's passenger, 25-year-old Alisha Terrell of Pine Village, was found down the road at a residence. Terrell had walked to the residence after freeing herself from the wreckage in an attempt to notify emergency crews.

The cause of the crash and the cause of Cain's death are still under investigation. Police do not yet know if drugs or alcohol were involved, but they said that it appeared that only Terrell was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
