WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - If you've passed by the building coming up along fast-food ally
in West Lafayette, you've probably wondered what it is.
"I know there's a lot of buzz about it because people have been
stopping down here asking," said Aaron Turner, Sorrento Italian
Restaurant Manager. "Once they hear it's Sorrento, they get
excited."
The restaurant is currently housed a ways off Sagamore Parkway
behind the site of the former West Lafayette K-Mart. Turner said
the move will be better for business.
"Since K-Mart left, business has kind of dropped a little bit,"
he said. "We just wanted to be more visible."
Turner said Sorrento has been around for many years, at one time
positioned at the corner of Salisbury Street and Sagamore parkway
as a fine dining restaurant.
As a throwback for some of its original customers and its
retired owner John Purvis, Sorrento is bringing back a few
favorites.
"So, we just wanted, as a tribute to John, we're kind of
bringing back some of the Sorrento thing because he enjoyed that
more," Turner said. "Some of the new items is going to be salmon.
We're going to bring back a favorite dish chicken darnell, which is
a chicken and shrimp dish. We've got shrimp scampi, lobster
ravioli."
Turner said the new restaurant will be classified as casual
dining and will continue to feature Pizza King pizza. He expects
the building to be finished at the end of May.
