WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A long-time Purdue trustee is retiring after twenty years with the black and gold.

Indianapolis businessman Timothy McGinley presided over his final meeting this morning. McGinley has served as chair of the board of trustees for 16 years taking over the role in 1993. Purdue is honoring his service to the school by naming an area in Discovery Park called the J. Timothy McGinley Plaza.

France Cordova, Purdue President, said McGinley's leadership will be missed.

"You'll be missed in the boardroom, but know that your spirit will still guide us and those who follow us," she said.

"My overall emotions today are one gratitude for having the opportunity," said Timothy McGinley. "And then a great deal of pride about what we have been able to accomplish over last 16 years. So, it's time for some new energy, new ideas, new blood, and I'm very proud of what we have been able to do."

Trustee Susan Butler is also stepping down after three years on the board. Michael Berghoff, Owner of Lennox Steel, and Don Thompson, McDonalds USA President, will fill the open spots. Both men are Purdue graduates.
