TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Firefighters got the call about the blaze around 12:30 Tuesday afternoon.
Crews from Sheffield Township, Mullberry, Rossville, Wea and Buck Creek arrived and had to act quickly to keep the flames from spreading.
"We were told for a garage fire, almost immediately we were told that we had a second structure on fire," said Sheffield Fire Chief Bill Huffer
The blaze started in this garage at 4222 South County Line Road East. It then spread next door to the garage at 4232 South County Line Road East. Huffer said firefighters did their best to control the blaze.
"(We) did a two prong attack on both structures. Did have a propane tank involved. It vented but never exploded. We've got that taken care of," said Huffer.
The commotion caught the attention of nearby resident Brian Amburgey.
" I heard a loud boom from my buddy's house on 38, then I seen Sheffield run by his place," said Amburgey.
Firefighters managed to get the blaze under control. Huffer said the neighboring house sustained minimal damage, but he's not sure about the house where the fire started.
"There's probably gonna have some heat, smoke damage throughout but we kept the fire to the garage," said Huffer.
Huffer said no one was injured in the fire although some firefighters were checked out by EMS for heat exhaustion.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, but is being investigated.
