TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Rising water has made several roads in the county dangerous for drivers.
Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Sergeant Bob Brewer said drivers should be cautious near low-lying county roads, especially those near the Wildcat Creek. He said the county highway department has put up several high water signs warning drivers. Currently, State Road 225 east of Battle Ground and State Road 43 North is closed to traffic. State Road 43 is closed near Wabash Valley Hospital and the Soldiers' Home. Brewer said drivers need to remember it only takes 18 inches of moving water to carry a car off the road. He said freezing temperatures could also affect the roadways.
"At this point it's hard to tell if that water is going to be deep or shallow. But any amount of water that is rushing quickly across the roadway could be treacherous to go over in a vehicle. So, we are just asking for drivers to be aware," Brewer said.
Drivers can be ticketed for going around Road Closed signs.
