CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (WLFI) - The man accused of killing his former girlfriend is being held without bond in the Montgomery County jail.
Scott D. Malott, 36, faces preliminary charges of murder and confinement.
Malott is accused of killing Heather Rush, 30, and firing shots at Roger Lyman, 32, of Colfax. The shooting happened Monday morning at Malott's house on County Road 1200 North near New Richmond. Madison County Police said Malott surrendered to officers near Anderson after the shooting was reported. He was transported to the Montgomery County jail late Monday.
Chief Deputy Gary Truax said Malott talked about what happened with investigators when he arrived at the jail in Crawfordsville. "He said some things that corroborated with what the witness told us, but he stopped short of confessing," said Truax. "It was not a full confession."
Truax said ballistic tests will be done on a handgun that was found on the floorboard of Malott's pick up truck to see if that was the weapon used in the crime. "We are still processing evidence in the case," said Truax.
An autopsy was conducted Tuesday on Rush in Terre Haute. Investigators are still evaluating the results. But, Truax said Rush suffered mutliple gunshot wounds.
