JASPER COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Alleged abductor, 48-year-old Michael Lindsey, of South Bend, is now behind bars in Jasper County.
Newton County Sheriff Sergeant Cothran found Lindsey walking on the north bound lane of U.S. 41 in the area of Morocco Sunday morning. When the officer approached Lindsey, he gave a false name and information to the officer. Lindsey ran away from the officer into a rural area east of U.S. 41.
Police units from Newton and Jasper County Sheriff's Departments and the Indiana State Police surrounded the area. K-9 units and the Lake County Sheriff's Department helicopter searched the area as well.
Police said Lindsey came out of a small wooded area north of Morocco near a water treatment facility. He surrendered to police around 10:07 a.m. Lindsey was transferred to the Jasper County Jail where he is being held without bond on charges of Attempted Carjacking, Intimidation.
Additionally, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office has charged Lindsey with Attempted Criminal Confinement and Criminal Confinement. The charges stem from the abduction of a 19-year-old Mishawaka woman on Tuesday.
Jasper County Police believe Lindsey is the suspect in a car-jacking outside the McDonald's near Interstate 65 and State Road 114 Friday morning.
