INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WLFI) - The purpose of the alliance is to develop research, expand medical education, and allocate matching funds for research initiatives.
Indiana University President Michael McRobbie and Purdue President France Cordova said the partnership is a benefit to Indiana.
"It's terriffic news. As Representative Klinker said, there's a long budget process to go. But we think that this, the ways and means committee, has sent a very strong signal of support for this alliance," said Cordova.
"It's going to generate new innovations. New discoveries, new inventions. They will in turn lead to new companies, new services, which will lead to jobs. Just at a time when jobs are disappearing. This is an investment that has the promise of generating new jobs," said McRobbie.
Cordova and McRobbie were at the state house today showcasing exhibits between Purdue and I-U with Indiana businesses.
Cordova said the schools' rivalry has increased the respect of legislators for this alliance.
