MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) - A teen who was abducted in northern Indiana was reportedly
released in White County, though the man that abducted her is still
at large.
Mishawaka Police say they want to talk to 48-year-old Michael
Lindsey of St. Joseph County.
Lindsey is a registered sex offender and a person of interest in
the abduction of a Mishawaka teen and the attempted abduction of
two other woman.
A man first tried to abduct a woman outside a Hobby Lobby store
in Mishawaka on Tuesday afternoon by placing a sharp object against
her side and ordering her to allow him to enter the car with her.
That attempt failed when the woman screamed and the man fled.
Not long after that, a man attempted to abduct a second woman in
Mishawaka, but also failed.
Later in the day, police say a man forced a 19-year-old woman
into her car and ordered her to leave the area.
State Police Sergeant Kim Riley says the woman was released
about five miles east of Wolcott, in White County. The woman, a
South Bend resident, told police she was kidnapped at knife point
by this unkown male subject from a business in Mishawaka while she
was sitting in her car.
Police say a few hours later, the suspect let the woman out of
the car on a rural country road five miles east of Wolcott.
The woman ran to a nearby house where she was able to call
police.
Using GPS from the woman's cell phone that was left in the car,
police were able to track the car, which was found abandoned in a
field between Wolcott and Remington.
The kidnapper was not found in the vicinity of the vehicle. K-9
units tracked the scent of the suspect through the field to a truck
stop off of Interstate 65.
The police's inability to locate the man has residents of nearby
Wolcott concerned for their safety.
Mishawaka Police released this composite sketch of the man
they're looking for. He's described as being white, 35 to 45 years
old, with a slender build. He was wearing a red or burgundy
coat.
