LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Edith and Miriam Walters collected prom dresses and money from local businesses, family, and friends for Jackson County High School in McKee, Kentucky.

Jackson County has one of the highest unemployment rates in the state. Edith Walters says it was her grandmother, who lives in Jackson County, that first brought the situation to her attention. Miriam Walters says the students are very grateful to be receiving the dresses.

"One little girl the first year we took them broke into tears. She said "My daddy can't afford a prom dress for me. And the lady we we're giving them to said "You can get one" and she said "How much do they cost?" And they're free. That's what we stipulate that have to be given to them free. No charges," said Walters.

Walters says so far they have collected more than one hundred dresses.
