The Lafayette Farmers' Market is growing.

Dennis Carson, of Greater Lafayette Commerce, said the Farmers Market has run out of space due to overwhelming response by vendors.

Even an expansion into a parking lot on 5th Street has not been enough room.

Beginning Saturday, July 4, the market will extend north on 5th Street, in the block between Main and Ferry Streets, to allow room for up to 20 more vendors.

"We're really surprised and overwhelmed by [the growth.]  It's a great response this year; we've had a lot more patrons coming. There's a lot more people that are interested in buying local and buying local organic produce and things like that and the arts and crafts have really taken off too," said Carson.

The market will be expanded for the rest of the season.  Main Street will remain open to traffic.
