LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Hundreds of Lafayette-area residents are joining thousands across the nation in a tax day protest.
These protesters gathered to protest what they call government overspending.
Organizer Jared Fagan said that the part of the purpose of the protest is to make a stand for limited government, and to call attention to the fact that there are limits to what the federal government is legally able to do, and that many rights belong to the states and the people.
Concerned citizens are expected to toss tea bags into the wabash river, a move that some environmental groups say is littering.
As of early on the afternoon of April 15, niether the DNR nor the Lafayette nor West Lafayette police had issued littering fines.
More on the tea party and reaction to it will air on NewsChannel 18 at 5:00 and 6:00 p.m.
