LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - In celebration of the nation's independence, one group celebrated with a tea party. Citizens in Action held a Fourth of July festival and tea party at the Myers Pedestrian Bridge. Organizer Don Brown said the goal of the event is to bring attention to the government's over-spending and over-taxation of its citizens. Despite the rain, the festival went on with a band, kids games, and several guest speakers. Brown said the non-profit organization formed the tea party in April. He said unlike the last tea party, this is a fundraiser.
The group is selling iced tea instead of throwing it into the river.

"We are hoping for a big turnout. I would hope there is enough people that believe like we do that they won't let a sprinkle keep them away," he said.

Brown said across the country, 2,000 other tea parties are taking place today.
