LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The tunnel project beneath Lafayette's downtown is a week or two behind schedule.
The tunnel starts at Second and Alabama Streets and goes north, and is being built to elminate sewage being dumped into the river.
Instead, sewage will be treated at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Wastewater Superintendent, Brad Talley, says the project shouldn't effect upcoming events such as the Taste of Tippecanoe.
"We may have some areas that are cornered off if the equipment is still there," said Talley. "We have some de-watering equipment that may need to stay. We're going to try and make it as low an impact as possible on all the festivities."
Even though the project is behind schedule, Talley says with the good weather coming, crews may be able to make up for lost time.
The $18.4 million project is supposed to be completed by the end of the year.
