LAFAYETTE, Ind - The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's department is working two fatal crashes. Roads are ice-covered and slick.
Police say two people died when an SUV slid off US 231 near Romney. Another person in the vehicle was injured and was taken to a Lafayette Hospital. "The SUV slid off the highway because of black ice," said Deputy Rob Reppert. "The vehicle slid off the road and hit a tree broadside." US 231 is closed between State Road 28 and County Road 800 South. Reppert said it appeared the vehicle was headed north, but an accident reconstruction team was investigating the wreck.
The Sheriff's Department also reports another fatal crash on State Road 25 near the Colburn turnoff. Police say two people died in that accident.
Emergency workers have shut down State Road 25 West at US 231. There were numerous slid off on the highway Friday morning.
