LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lafayette will honor cancer survivors at an observance of the 22nd annual National Cancer Survivors Day.  The Community Cancer Network's Melinda Bond said advances in cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment have resulted in longer survival.

Bond was diagnosed with cancer when she was 26.  She was treated with 3 rounds of chemotherapy, and has been cancer-free for 16 years.  Bond says there is hope for cancer patients.

"Sometimes it doesn't feel like you're going to survive. You're sick, tired, all the side effects. Of course, financially it can be devastating. But you'll get through that, and you'll move on," said Bond.

The Lafayette National Cancer Survivors Day celebration will be held Sunday, June 7 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Community Center on State Road 26 East.
