Local schools mostly improve

Indianapolis - School corporations in Tippecanoe County saw their 2008 ISTEP+ test results rise, for the most part, while state-wide test results fell.

ISTEP+ scores improved in both English and Math in the Lafayette School Corporation. Pass rates for English were up 3.5 percent to 62.8 percent. Math scores were up 1.5 percent to 64.5 percent.

In the Tippecanoe School Corporation, English scores fell 0.5 percent to 74.6 percent, while average Math scores improved slightly in TSC to 76.4 percent.

In the West Lafayette Community School Corporation, English rates improved by more than a percentage point to 92 percent, and Math rates fell nearly a half-percentage point in West Lafayette schools, to 94.3 percent.

In Lafayette Catholic Schools, English rates improved slightly, to 92.7 percent. Math scores rose to 91.3 percent.

Statewide, 71 percent of students tested passed the English portion of the test. Math scores were 74 percent statewide.
