LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Crews should put the finishes touches on a project to beautify Tippecanoe County's courthouse square by the end of the year.

Dennis Carson, Lafayette Redevelopment Director, said Streetscape Phase Three will look similar to previous phases around the courthouse. He said this project will improve the look along Columbia and Fourth Streets.

The board of works gave approval to advertise for bids on the project. Carson said the work should start by the end of July.

"Phase III is going to help us finish the courthouse square project where we started the streetscape project on the model block on Columbia Street so in terms of design," he said. "It will look very similar to other blocks it will have the same brick paver banding, the trees and tree wells, and street furniture and also public art as well."

Carson said the project includes work on the east side of 4th Street from Main to Columbia Streets and the south side of Columbia to 5th Street. The project is expected to cost close to $500,000.

It will be paid for using money from the tax increment finance district and money from business owners along the route.

Carson expects this phase to be finished by the end of November.
