LAFAYETTE, Indiana - Caterpillar announced more layoffs today at its Lafayette facility and at a facility in Griffin, Georgia.

For Lafayette, the company has announced an additional 141 layoffs, which are expected to last at least six months. Those layoffs will begin on July 31, 2009.

The company also intends to implement rolling layoffs which will have a predetermined length, such as one week per month, and a definite return date. These rolling layoffs will take place throughout the rest of the year.

According to a company statement, the changes are being made to bring production levels in line with demand. The statement also says that more layoffs and separations may be necessary this year, depending on business conditions.
