ATTICA, Ind. (WLFI) - Roy Jones arrived at Attica High School in 1969 as an Industrial Arts Teacher, and he never left. Forty years later, thirty of which he served as Principal, he begins his retirement at the end of the 2009 school year.

Faculty, staff, students, and friends celebrated his career during "Roy Jones Week" at the school.  The week included a surprise fire drill, a few pranks, and a pep rally featuring a game of Roy Jones trivia, a look back at his early years as a teacher, and many more surprises.
Jones said it has been an honor to be a part of thousand of lives over the years.

"Just to be in the lives of so many kids and families and having three generations go through school is a nice feeling...to be able to look out and know that you know everybody and then being part of their life in some facet to help them has been great," Jones said.

Jones, 62,  said this year's senior class will mark close to 2,000 students he has graduated from Attica High School.

He said he plans to spend his retirement with family, volunteering in the community, and utilizing his love of woodworking and carpentry with Habitat for Humanity.  Jones said he plans to still be a part of the Attica High School community as well.

Jones said current Attica Junior High Principal Dave Ryan will take over the duties of High School Principal next year.
