TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - As construction moves forward on the Hoosier Heartland Corridor, the public will have a chance to learn how the work affects them.

Indiana Department of Transportation spokesperson Debbie Calder said four projects are in motion for this segment of the Hoosier Heartland Corridor.  She said construction will begin in Buck Creek soon.

Walsh crews began work on County Line Road and 900 North last November, launching the Lafayette to Logansport segment of the Hoosier Heartland Corridor. The new four-lane highway will create a new State Road 25. HNTB Project Engineer Robert Fisher said two bridge structures will run parallel to the Norfolk Southern Railroad.

"Northbound and Southbound State Road 25 there will be structures over Norfolk Southern Railroad and over County Line Road. We have approximately 750,000 cubic yards of embankment that we have to place and we have about 17,000 square yards of concrete paving on top of that to form the new roadway," Fisher explained.

Debbie Calder said the four projects will cost $450 million and will be complete in a few years.

"The segment one here that's underway right now is scheduled for completion, the end of the construction season of 2012. The entire stretch, the 31 mile section of the roadway between Lafayette and Logansport is scheduled for completion in 2013," said Calder.

INDOT awarded Milestone Contractors a $4.3 million project to build a bridge at County Road 500 East over S.R. 25 and the Norfolk Southern Railroad. While work is being done, Calder says residents may have some concerns.

"If there's going to be any road closures, what's going to be taking place, we will be giving the timeline of the construction project and just a brief overview," said Calder.
Milestone Contractors will hold a public meeting Wednesday, May 20.  The meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the Buck Creek Community Center.
It is located at 4700 North County Road 750 East, in Buck Creek.
