HILLSBORO, Ind. (WLFI) - Last night's storm ripped through a handful of towns in the News Channel 18 viewing area.

Residents in the town of Hillsboro, in Fountain County, were left picking up the pieces after what appeared to be straight line winds.

Emergency Management Director Joe Whitaker said the area lost power last night and several trees were hit.

Connie Anderson, who lives on Water Street, said about three to four trees were damaged at her home.

She said during the tornado warning she took cover with an elderly neighbor.

"We went down into the basement to take cover. We were down there probably 20 minutes and went back upstairs. Not anything major had went through the first run through. Then we were just waiting on the second cell to come through and it looked bigger and it was scary," Anderson said.

Hillsboro resident Homer Myers said he was out of town last night, but returned to help neighbors clear out uprooted trees from their backyards.

"The town of Waynetown was real nice. They let us use their chipper. So, that's been a real help. We're just going around with the small saws cutting them up where we can get it into the chipper and then hauling it out of town," said Myers.

The telephone company, TDS, repaired downed lines throughout the county.
