Hillsboro - It's the tale as old as time. Myers Dinner Theater opened
its 2009 season with a production of, Beauty and the Beast.
Richard and Donna Myers' dinner theater in Hillsboro brings a
piece of Broadway to Central Indiana.
"My husband is fantastic and creative in keeping things going.
So, we together build all the sets and costumes. And he's a great
cook so that makes us the cooks, too," Myers said.
The theater uses some actors who travel around the country
professionally, but they also hold auditions for local talent.
"That was very important because that's sort of a springboard
for them to achieve things they have a dream for," Myers said.
Crawfordsville native John Blair is directing the entire
production as well as acting in it. He said it is hard work but
extremely rewarding.
"It's really family-oriented so you can bring your children.
It's a very, almost Christian environment. You don't have to
embarrassed about anything that's always going to be on stage. You
don't have to be surprised with anything and it's for adults alike.
They certainly find enjoyment," Blair said.
Myers said watching the audience's enthusiastic response, can
bring her to tears.
"We always feel like we are preparing for a huge family to come
in, that's number one and once people are here, their excitement
gives you the push to keep on going," Myers said.
Actor Jason Newkirk agrees.
"I've worked for a lot of dinner theaters and I'm telling you
it's really like a family environment here. It's fantastic fun and
we have a great time and audience loves it every night," Newkirk
said.
