HILLSBORO, Ind. (WLFI) - A one-car crash in Fountain County on April 1 injured three people, and police are now saying alcohol may have been a factor. In addition, the child in the vehicle was not properly restrained.
Indiana State Police Sergeant Kim Riley said that Kaiden Smith, 3, was in a child seat but that the child seat was not properly attached to the vehicle.
Riley said Jason Coleman was intoxicated at the time of the crash, and they are not sure if Pamela Smith was intoxicated.
Riley said police do not know if alcohol was a factor in the crash or not because they cannot yet determine who was driving.
Tests are being done on the airbags to determine who the driver was. Police must know who was driving the vehicle before any charges are filed.
Kaiden is still at Riley Hospital in Indianapolis and was reported to be in serious condition as of 11:50 a.m. on the morning of Friday, April 3. Pamela Smith, Kaiden's mother, was listed in fair condition at Wishard Hospital, also in Indiapolis, on April 2, and Jason Coleman was treated at St. Claire Medical Center in Crawfordsville and has been released.
