Police stepped up security at Frankfort High School after finding a threatening message scribbled on the wall of a student bathroom Sunday night.

Frankfort Deputy Chief Randy Emery said the threat was very generic in nature but police took it seriously.

Superintendent Kevin Caress said police and K9 units from several departments swept the building and found nothing.

This morning hundreds of high school students where checked at a security point at Case Arena as police used metal detectors and other security to look for anything suspicious. Police searched backpacks and students had to walk through metal detectors. The students were held for about two hours in the auditorium during this process.

Caress says everything went well and the students are ready to take final exams.

"Our main goal is to make sure it is a safe environment, that is the first step. Second of all, we'll then go to 'what is next?' We hope to have a normal school day, that's our intention today and every effort will be made to make it as normal as possible."

Last night the school contacted parents using a new warning message system informing them they were taking precautions and how students would need to arrive and be checked when arriving at the school. They believe it was successful and reached up to 90% of parents.

Most students still attended school. Caress said there were only 47 no-shows.

Frankfort Schools will let out for the summer on Wednesday.
