Frankfort, Ind - A former treasurer for the Clinton Central School Corporation
has pleaded guilty to theft. She is accused of taking more than
$13,000 from the district.
Mary Clark, of Michigantown, pleaded guilty Monday to 10 counts
of theft in Clinton Circuit Court. Her arrest followed an
investigation by the State Board of Accounts and the Indiana State
Police. Clark is accused of making unauthorized checks to herself
and her son from 2005 to 2007. Clinton County Prosecutor Tony
Sommer said Clark issued checks to her son, Randall Clark, for work
he didn't do and put the money in her own account.
Clark was terminated from her job when the State Board of
Accounts audit was completed.
She was originally charged in September 2008 with 16 counts of
forgery and 15 counts of theft. As part of a plea agreement, all
but 10 counts of theft will be dismissed.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 15th. Each of the theft
charges carries a possible sentence of six months to three years in
prison.
