Clinton County residents came out to cast their vote in a Special Election, despite snowy conditions. The one-question ballot asked voters if the Clinton Central School Corporation should finance the renovation of Clinton Central Elementary and Junior-Senior High Schools. Voters at the Michigantown Fire Station said this is a hot topic in the county.
"I've seen several signs against it, and I've read a lot of editorials in the paper--pros and cons of it," said William Mosson, of Clinton County.
Voters Dewey and Pat Ferguson said they think repairs are needed at the schools, but they do not support an increase in property taxes for the total renovation project.
"They're trying to real put it to a lot of the people out here. Instead of fixing what is broken at the school they threw in millions of dollars for a new gymnasium or a new auditorium or something. The economy cannot stand that now. The farmers, the people that own homes cannot stand that right now," said Pat.
"I don't think they need it right now," added Dewey.
They, like many Clinton County residents, are anxious for the results.
"I just can't wait to see how its going to end," said Dewey.
"There's going to be a lot of fit-throwing if it goes bad. You know, people are really going to be up in arms," said Pat.
"I look for it to be pretty split. I'm not sure how it'll turn out. Could be interesting," added Mosson.
Polls close at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday. The Clinton County Clerk expected results to be in shortly thereafter.
