LOGANSPORT, Ind. (WLFI) - Sixteen Logansport High School students will be attending the historic inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama. The four day trip has the students eager to experience everything Washington has to offer.
"It's exciting, you get an adrenaline rush," said senior Chris Martin.
Martin has always been interested in politics. He said he can't wait to learn more about the nation's capital.
"This is my once in a lifetime opportunity to see it up and in person, and I think not only is the President going to be there, but Senators, and Congressman and its just the whole political spectrum right there in Washington D.C.," said Martin.
Junior Brianna Bullard, however, said her feelings about politics are opposite Martin's.
"Politics and all that stuff has never really been my thing, so I think it's going to be neat to experience it all, because I really don't know what it's all about," said Bullard.
The trip to Washington, D.C. was planned before the outcome of the election. Some students said they were hoping Obama would win.
"To actually see the candidate that I was supporting be sworn in and give his speech, I think that's going to be huge," said Lanette Urbin.
As for the teacher taking the group, Kasia Minnick said it's always been a dream to take students to Washington. She said, with such an historic election, there couldn't be a better time.
"As their teacher, it's kind of the pinnacle for me in terms of seeing, not only my dream come true, but the dreams of my students. I am just thrilled to be able to help the kids get to experience the nation's capital and all of its treasures and history, many of them for the first time," said Minnick.
The group will also get to attend an inaugural ball just for students. They leave for the trip on January 18.
