LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - 42-year-old Charles "Brian" Meeks was sentenced to jail time yesterday for killing ducks and geese with his truck, but he is back in court today for a hearing because he was found in contempt of court.

Lafayette Police said Meeks killed ten ducks and one goose in a Nov. 25 incident. A visitor at Columbian Park told investigators he had just fed the animals when he saw a Midland Meals truck pull in. The visitor said the driver, Meeks, appeared to "floor it" when he approached the flock.

Meeks no longer works for Midland Meals.

A jury acquitted Meeks on a charge of animal cruelty in June, but found him guilty of illegal taking of migratory birds.

Meeks was ordered to serve 60 days in jail, pay $164 in court costs and to stay out of Columbian Park, permanently.

Comments Meeks made after receiving his sentence were what led to his being found in contempt of court.

Prosecutor Pat Harrington says Meeks is scheduled for a hearing Tuesday on those comments.
