LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A special prosecutor has formally charged a Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Deputy with battery, strangulation and criminal mischief.
The charges stem from a reported altercation Officer Travis Dowell had with his 18-year old daughter at his home in Clarks Hill in February.
Sheriff Tracy Brown said Dowell remains on staff, but is only assigned to administrative duties while the case is pending.
Special Prosecutor Rob Ives said a trial date is tentatively scheduled for August 25th. Dowell has worked for the sheriff's department for 16 years.
The daughter's affidavit of probable cause was taken down,
describing the incident.
