LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lafayette wants to annex 99 acres on the south side of the city. The city council looked at the proposal tonight at its caucus meeting. The area includes the Walmart on 350 South and the Torchwood Condominiums. Mayor Tony Roswarski said the area should be a part of the city because it already receives city services.
"They are already provided with city water, city sewer, we plow the roads in the front of the places. The police are driving up and down the roads. They are getting the benefit of city services," he explained.
This annexation would be the third phase in a four phase project. Annexation into the city will increase property taxes for the owners. The City Council will also look at approving the new CVS on 18th Street between Salem and Union Streets. The meeting is Monday, July 6th at 7:00 pm at Lafayette City Hall.
