A fatal wreck in White County Monday afternoon claimed the life of a teenage boy.

White County Sheriff's Deputy David Rozzi said 16-year-old Cale B. Paschen, of Brookston, was headed southbound on Springboro Road at State Road 18 after 2:00 p.m.

Rozzi said, for an unknown reason, Paschen's 1992 Acura started to cross the intersection in front of a Mack truck.  The driver of the truck, 61-year-old John D. Leill, of Lafayette, was not injured.

Police said after the initial impact, Paschen's car was pushed into the guard rail and the semi continued westbound.

State Police Sergeant Kim Riley said the driver of the car was crossing State Road 18 on Springboro Road and failed to stop at the intersection.

A PHI AirMed helicopter was called to the scene to transport Paschen to St. Elizabeth Central, where he later passed away from his injuries, according to the police report.

Emergency personnel were forced to close State Road 18 between US 421 and State Road 43 in order to allow the chopper to land.

The road was reopened just before 6:30 p.m.

The crash is still under investigation.
