WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Betty Rowe, 83, remains on the go. As a mother of three and grandmother of three, she knows the importance of family -- especially as a single mom.

"That's my message: do what you love doing and you'll be OK," said Rowe.

Rowe's list of accomplishments runs wide. She worked for many years with the Tippecanoe County Council on Aging. At 48, she earned a social work degree.

"I am convinced that one never dies these things alone; there's no way I could have gotten to this point of receiving a recognition award without a lot of help," she added.

At 60, Rowe spent time in Thailand serving with the Peace Corps. She developed a heart for empowering women and families.

"I learned from my experience in Thailand how strong women are," commented Rowe.

Every day, she's working to make our community a better place. In 2011, she funded a Teen Pregnancy Program at the YWCA. She currently serves with Bauer Family Resources as an Early Head Start Specialist.

"I love it. I love it. And I'm convinced we need to do some more with our hunger problem with children and families and continue to support the family structure," she said.

The YWCA salutes Betty Rowe's lifetime of achievements by saluting her as a Woman of Distinction.
