LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The YWCA of Greater Lafayette will host a luncheon on Friday, Jan. 18, to educate and inform those in attendance about cervical cancer.
January is "Cervical Cancer Awareness Month" and Friday's luncheon is all about getting the word out to educate, vaccinate and eradicate (EVE).
Cervical cancer is the only cancer for which there is a vaccine available. The luncheon will also provide information on the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
Kirk Forbes is one of the guest speakers. His 23-year-old daughter lost her battle with the disease and now it's his mission to help others. He wrote a book about his daughter and he was recently featured on the "Dr. Oz" show. He and his wife Brenda started the Kristen Forbes EVE Foundation .
Also scheduled to speak is Heather Banks, a cervical cancer survivor.
The luncheon will be held at the YWCA, located at 605 North 6th St. in Lafayette. Cost for the luncheon is $15. Puccini's will be catering. Registration is preferred by calling (765) 742-0075.
The YWCA Women's Cancer Program provides assistance to women who are uninsured, under-insured and for those whose insurance does not cover the costs of procedures like pap tests and mammograms. You can find more information via the YWCA website .
