Young boy dies in house fire

MULBERRY, Ind. (WLFI) - A 7-year-old boy is dead after firefighters say he was trapped inside a burning home.

Firefighters with the Madison Township Fire Department said they received a call about a house fire at 211 South Main Street in Mulberry, just before 2 Saturday morning.

When firefighters arrived seven minutes later, they found the house fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters said two adults and one 16-year-old boy, who all lived in the home, were outside when they arrived.

According to firefighters, the family told them their youngest son was still inside. Firefighters went into the home, but were unable to pull 7-year-old Nouha Vaughn-Linderer out of the home. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Firefighters said the two parents and 16-year-old boy were all transported to a local hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

As of 8 Saturday morning, fire crews were still working to extinguish all of the hot spots. Firefighters tell News 18 the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
