WWII Veterans prepare for trip to Washington, D.C.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Monday will be a day to remember for Lafayette-area World War II veterans, as they embark on another honor flight to Washington, D.C..

Sunday, the veterans gathered at the Subaru of Indiana Automotive recreation center for a "Meet and Greet" before their trip. The event allowed World War II veterans to not only visit with old friends, but make some new ones.

Organizers said the honor flight program has been a huge success, and has far exceeded their expectations.

Honor Flight Co-President Pam Mow said the main goal of the trips is to ensure the veterans get recognized. For veterans like Eugene Molter, it's all about reliving old memories.

"You've got to remember our veterans and honor our veterans always," said Mow. "Regardless of what war they were in, or if they were even in a conflict. We're pro-veterans."

"It brings back a lot of memories," said Molter. "I've already met this evening, a lot of the fellows I was with time wise, but not unit wise. Just to relive old memories, and share experiences and that sort of thing."    

Mow said the public is encouraged to welcome the Honor Flight home tomorrow night. The crew will return to the Purdue Airport around 9 p.m..
