Battleground, Ind. (WLFI) - The wolf residents of Wolf Park in Battle Ground were treated to some classic 4th of July treats with a twist.

The wolf packs, baby wolves, foxes and coyotes were all fed chilled watermelons filled with special carnivore friendly morsels, such as summer sausage and cheese.

The public was invited to view the event and many came to enjoy the show.

The employees of Wolf Park said that the watermelon tradition helps them share the holiday spirit with their furry extended family, while at the same time enriching the wolves diets.

"Through the year with all the different holidays that we get to celebrate like Christmas and Halloween and Thanksgiving we do the same for our wolves here too, and basically the wolves that we have here are part of our family so we like to celebrate the holiday with them," said Wolf Park employee Dana Drenzek.

The employees and volunteers set up events like this one in order to raise money for the park, as it is a non-profit organization.
