WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The first major winter storm of the season moved through the area Wednesday morning and continued to dump snow through Wednesday afternoon causing big headaches on the roadways.

Heavy bursts of snow started the accumulation process across the viewing area around 8 a.m. Wednesday. Some areas saw snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour.

Most areas of Tippecanoe County saw 2 to 4 inches of snow just after the lunch hour. As forecasted, the heaviest snow accumulations took place south and east of the Lafayette area. Much of Clinton and Montgomery Counties saw over four inches of snow just after noon.

The winds blew the snow around which made it difficult for road crews to keep up with plowing and salting.
