TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - The wife of a well-known and loved Tippecanoe County coroner who died in a car crash has filed paperwork to run for the position this November.
Donna Avolt served as County Coroner from 2005 to 2008 when her husband, Dr. Martin David Avolt, took office.
Dr. Avolt, known by his friends as “Doc” Avolt, died in a car crash in Florida August 16.
Dr. Avolt was visiting his son and his family in Dunedin, about 25 miles west of Tampa.
Tippecanoe County Republican Party Chairman Bob Hicks is a longtime friend of Dr. Avolt.
He said Dr. Avolt and his wife, Donna, were very active with party events.
Avolt was running unopposed for the office this November.
The Republican Party will hold a caucus Thursday, September 6, for the position.
Candidates for coroner must file appropriate paperwork at least 72 hours before the caucus.
