BROOKSTON, Ind. (WLFI) - A fire in Brookston destroyed what firefighters said was a vacant two-story home Friday.
Firefighters were called out to 11773 S. County Road 125 West in White County just before 9 Friday evening.
Upon arrival, firefighters said the house was engulfed and collapsed about a half hour later.
Brookston, Prairie Township, Battle Ground and Chalmers fire departments were all on the scene.
The gusty wind wasn't the only obstacle firefighters had to face when battling this blaze.
"The winds weren't helping, but the main concern was a live wire down in the front," Brookston Firefighter Karl Stokes said. "We were waiting for R.E.M.C. to get here to disconnect power before we move operations to the other side."
The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
