West Lafayette to receive new police vehicles

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Five new police vehicles will be cruising the streets of West Lafayette, including one SUV.

The West Lafayette Redevelopment Commission approved the purchase of four Dodge Chargers and one Chevy Tahoe.

The Chargers cost more than $90,000 combined. The Tahoe is $26,000. Police Chief Jason Dombkowski says both the payments are under budget.

The Tahoe will be used for K-9 units. It includes an electronic warning system that would trigger all doors to open if the temperature in the car became too hot or cold, allowing the K-9 to escape.

Dombkowski says the system will cost nearly $14,000, which is $6,000 more than they planned.
