West Lafayette Public Library lets you check out e-books

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Local libraries can help literary lovers fill their e-bookshelves anytime they want.

The West Lafayette Public Library offers free checkouts of e-books to their members.

Library Director Nick Schenkel says the checkout process is very similar to getting a traditional book. You choose a book you want to read and check it out.

There is a due date, but people do not have to come in to check out or return the books.

The app on your tablet, phone or computer automatically returns the book for you.

Schenkel says while many people think there are unlimited amount of copies to download that's not the case.

“The way this is set up is, it's controlled by the publishers, not the libraries,” Schenkel said. “Publishers have decided they will let us check out one e-book at a time.  Libraries purchase the rights to provide one e-book at a time.”
