West Lafayette property rezoned

Commissioners rezone for multi-family housing

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Tippecanoe County Commissioners unanimously approved the rezoning of a West Lafayette property Monday.

The just over four acres located at the corner of Genoa and Paramount drives is now zoned for multi-family housing.

The plot had been zoned for commercial use and multi-family housing before that.

"It was zoned commercially, then it was zoned residentially for apartments, then it went back to commercial," Executive Director of the Area Plan Commission Sallie Fahey said. "Now they have decided, based on the interest of abutting property owners with apartments, that its best zoning would be multi-family."

Another reason for the requested changed in zoning was the commercial development already located near the property.

"For commercial development to front Genoa Drive it would also front the back of the other commercial development," Fahey said. "In a multi-family or apartment situation you could design it so that buildings are backed onto it with less impact."

Fahey believes the property will likely be an expansion of the apartments already located near the site.
