West Lafayette Fire Department gets new gear

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Even though it has already been in use, a new ATV was officially added to the West Lafayette Fire Department fleet Wednesday.

It's a new Polaris ATV totaling $19,400, plus the cost of additional equipment.
The gift was donated by Firehouse Subs of Lafayette to help with service calls on the trail systems.

West Lafayette Fire Chief Timothy Heath says the ATV has cut their response time for trail calls in half.

“Prior to this we had to take a full-size vehicle on the trail and the tires just don't fit,” Chief Heath said. “We would have one wheel in the grass, one wheel in the roadway. So, we couldn't get to people as efficiently as we can now.”

Chief Heath says the ATV has gotten plenty of use already, including during July 4 festivities.
